PW Rights Report: Week of April 6, 2026
Alyza Liu at Simon & Schuster has acquired Caitlin Chisling's debut novel What the Wind Said, a YA fantasy set in a world where a hungry wind uses impossible wishes to devour the living, in which a sheltered girl has to team up with a snake oil salesman to rescue her kidnapped brother. Publication is planned for spring 2027; Bridget Smith at JABberwocky Literary Agency did the deal for North American rights.

PRH signs Beth Tomlin’s YA sapphic romance set in Hell
Penguin Random House (PRH) Children’s Books has acquired debut author Beth Tomlin’s sapphic YA romance, To Hell with You.

Dover Publications is expanding into romance with a new imprint, Midnight Rose! The adult romantasy imprint has already announced a few titles.
Dover Delves into Romance
This summer, Dover Publications will begin publishing "intensely passionate, richly immersive" romantic fiction under the banner of Midnight Rose, a new imprint directed by Dover publisher Betina Cochran, with Ally D'Antonio overseeing acquisitions. Dover plans to release for to eight titles annually.

Electric Monkey wins four-publisher auction for Kate Emilie’s 'delicious' speculative YA romance
Editorial director Sarah Levison secured UK and Commonwealth rights in a deal negotiated with Hellie Ogden at WME. The book will be published in the UK in July 2027, with a second book to follow in summer 2028.

Annie Odders at Berkley bought North American rights, at auction, in a two-book deal, to Ellen Meny’s A Gorgon’s Guide to Getting a Life, a reimagining of Medusa’s journey through an adult coming-of-age lens, from Keir Alekseii at Azantian Literary Agency, for a 2027 publication.

Aranya Jain at DAW took world rights to Hero Adjacent by Alexis Veenendaal, a cozy fantasy about “an elderly wizard who must reluctantly guide a gaggle of misfits to save the world,” from Madison Potter at Olswanger Literary Agency for a spring 2027 publication.

Kristin Allard at Norton Young Readers has acquired Alexandra Fallgren's debut YA novel I Don't Belong to You, in which, after a lifetime of having her most important moments used as "content" for her influencer mother's brand, a queer teen girl must find the courage to stand up for herself by suing her mother for control of her online footprint. Publication is slated for winter 2027; Sara Crowe at Sara Crowe Literary brokered the deal for world rights.

Rights Report: Week of August 18, 2025
Hannah Pierdolla at Wednesday Books has bought Cavern F(r)iend by Lene D. Buttner, a debut YA horroromance pitched as Andrew Joseph White meets Someone You Can Build a Nest In, in which a search-and-recovery guide with a monstrous secret is enlisted to retrieve the body of his bosses' son from the cursed sinkhole/amusement park where he works—only to find him alive and on a quest of his own. Publication is tentatively set for winter 2027; Eric Showers at Howard Morhaim Literary Agency negotiated the deal for world English rights.

Hannah Pierdolla at Wednesday Books has acquired Not Your Typical Love Story by Caitlyn Averett writing as C.R. Averett, a debut YA romance pitched as You've Got Mail meets Loveless, about a pair of aroace-spec (asexual and aromantic) academic rivals whose future dreams—due to a meddling older sister—become contingent on the two of them fake dating, all while dealing with grief, the weight of family expectations, and a secret online identity that could ruin everything.

PW Book Deals: Week of December 2, 2024
Nidhi Pugalia at Viking has acquired world rights to Too Pretty to Lie, the debut novel from Ethiopian American writer Birukti Tsige. Jennifer March Soloway at Andrea Brown Literary brokered the deal. Viking said the book is a “heist-revenge novel” in the vein of Portrait of a Thief that follows “gorgeous hustler Chernet as she infiltrates the Harvard elite to steal from the sons and daughters of the rich and powerful.” A publication date has not yet been announced.
