Birdie and Enid are soulmates. But do they have a chance in Hell? When Birdie Brown dies in a car crash, she is disappointed – and confused – to find herself in Hell with no memory of her life.
The tea is never the right temperature, staircases stretch on far longer than necessary, and all the books in the library are missing their endings. Birdie doesn’t know that her beautiful but slightly odd neighbour Enid is an angel – but she’s only temporarily fallen, for having asked too many questions in Heaven.
As the girls grow closer, Enid becomes convinced that a mistake has been made because Birdie, despite her grumpiness, belongs in Heaven. And as the two girls get to know their surroundings, they begin to ask more questions: who’s really in charge, and why are souls disappearing without warning? To stay together, Birdie and Enid must ultimately face their demons – and their angels. And, to defy fate, they’ll have to raise a little Hell.
