The Normal Monster Club

In this cozy sapphic horror romance set in a cryptid-obsessed small town, two exes–a paranormal podcaster and a stubborn skeptic–must reunite to save a missing child while investigating an unsolved mystery from their childhood.

When Em was thirteen, she started a paranormal investigation club with her best friends Sid and June in her small hometown of Normal. The club dissolved, along with Em and Sid’s budding romance, when June turned up dead and became Normal’s latest unsolved mystery. Em accepted June’s death as a tragic accident, but Sid was bullied for insisting that June was killed by the Normal Monster, the town’s local cryptid. Sid eventually left town, penning a monster memoir that became a cult hit. Em settled down with her high school boyfriend while the town capitalized on Sid’s book by growing an economy around monster tourism.

Seventeen years later, brash, freewheeling Sid returns to Normal to produce a podcast about the monster and prove herself to the community that exiled her. Cautious, reserved Em just wants Sid to leave town and stop wreaking havoc on her carefully curated life. But when another child goes missing, Em and Sid must confront their guilt over June’s death, and their lingering feelings for one another, as they join forces to find him.

When buried secrets and monsters surface with the summer cicadas, will Em and Sid learn to love their own monstrousness before the past repeats itself?
